homecoming

this weekend my sister and I went back home to visit our parents. we were both excited to see how the apartment looked like, since my parents had been redecorating for 5 weeks. my room was purple, of course :P and the color almost made me forget that all my posters were gone. on Saturday morning we went rummaging though second hand stores and even though I didn't end up with a big catch, the 3 items that I purchased were absolutely awesome. first, the dress: never in a thousand years would I have imagined that I would buy something golden. it's just against everything I believe in. I don't like anything sparkly, golden, silver, shiny, flashy, neon and so on. for a long period of my life I only dressed in black, so buying a golden dress was quite a risk I was taking. but the vintage print of the dress and the simple shape conquered me on the spot. I thought to myself why the hell not. second, a braided black belt with a big round buckle. it will go very well with skirts, dresses, t-shirts and wife beaters. third, the item I am most proud of, a purple belt with punk details. I shall call it my lucky charm belt. there's no point trying to describe just how awesome it is, you will have to see for yourselves.
so, my first outfit is all about the golden dress, which I wore with the black braided belt. today at work I also wore it with black hosiery and flats. and the second one is all about the purple punk belt. can't wait to wear it again :)

café bonjour

a couple of days ago I discovered the cutest coffee shop ever. it's really close from where I live, so today I decided to give it a try. it's called café bonjour and it's decorated in a old school french style. I especially loved the roses print on the wall paper and the Mucha inspired art nouveau prints. it's quite small and intimate and I love that they have an outside table that faces the street... so french indeed. of course I wanted my outfit to match the location but didn't want to be too literal so I went for a simple black and white stripes t-shirt and skinny punk jeans. I added the heart shaped sun glasses just because I can't get enough of them. but I do need to buy a béret though, just in case next time I want to be as french as possible.

summer's officially over

it's mid september and summer's been gone for quite a while now but I haven't really said goodbye to it until today. despite the nasty weather outside I decided to wear my striped maxi dress for the last time this year. I only got it towards the end of summer but it became my favorite of all season. now I have to say goodbye to it, and the other breezy summer dresses until next year. but I am really looking forward to saying hello to layering. layers are the thing I love most about fall, so I can't wait to get some inspiration for this beautiful season before us.

skinny buddha. the beginning

the concept of skinny buddha first emerged back in 2005 while I was working for the summer at a restaurant in LA. I was playing this game of making up punk band names with these 2 awesome friends of mine. skinny buddha was by far the best name we ever came up with, and it stuck with me ever since. skinny buddha was an imaginary punk band that had 3 very real members, and was so punk that it never played any concerts. even though the concept changed over the years, from a punk band to a fashion blog, it basically represents all things close to my heart, from my friends, to my time in LA, to my favorite bands, foods and fashion styles.
