2015 recap

Skinny Buddha 2015 outfit recap

The last day of the year calls for a look back at my absolute favorite outfits of 2015. It is also a time to reflect, think back on all the major events and experiences but also a time to plan ahead. Style wise, my outfits have been a little more toned down this year, there was a lot more black involved in my sartorial choices and lots of colors when it came to my hair. For the year to come I predict a return to basics, investing in timeless pieces and refining my personal style. On a personal level, it will be quite hard to top this year, so many amazing things have happened. I traveled quite a lot for my job, had an amazing vacation in Iceland, got married and most important of all welcomed baby girl Rei into the world. Who knows what 2016 has in store? The only thing I can say is bring it on!

Shooting for Altfel Magazine

Skinny Buddha shooting revista Altfel

I haven't been able to go out and shoot any new outfits since the baby arrived, so I thought it might be nice to share with you a project I worked on a couple of months ago. I don't know if you remember this, but back in October we had a bloggers meeting here in my hometown (you can check out the post here). Among other various activities, we had a street style photo shoot for Altfel Magazine, shot by Ancira Adeon. Here are some behind the scenes photos, as well as the article in the magazine. I was eight and a half months pregnant at the time. I can't believe how fast time flies by! Hope you guys like the pictures, I sure did have a great time shooting them and hanging out with my gorgeous fellow fashion bloggers.

Bringing home baby

Skinny Buddha baby girl Rei

Hi guys, meet the  newest addition to the family, our baby girl Rei! She's one week old today, and it has been amazing having her home these past few days. She is the most wonderful thing in the world and I love her to pieces! I swear I could spend hours just watching her sleep. And even though it's only a reflex, when she smiles I can feel my heart melting. I am dead beat tired but the happiest mom on the planet. Oh oh, gotta go, baby is calling!

Up and away in my wonderful balloon

SkinnyBuddha medium blonde haircut

Well, here I am, just about ready to pop! I feel and I look like I swallowed a gigantic balloon. But never mind that, I am feeling great. And besides, the thing I want to talk about is my brand new haircut. I felt the need for a change, and I figured there won't be too much time once the baby arrives, so I booked an appointment at my favorite salon and went for a trim. I had been planning this for a while but was a bit hesitant to say goodbye to my golden locks. Now I feel liberated, and this will surely be a lot easier to take care of in the next coming months. I will keep growing my roots and this seemed to be the perfect cut for the transition period. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen I had some nice curls in it, but with the way I toss and turn at night lately, I couldn't keep them in time for this shoot. Hope you guys like it!

The fall coats sisterhood

Skinny Buddha B.A.D Style light grey coat

With all the changes going on in my life right now, I decided it was time to give my blog a make-over. After all, it's been my baby for 6 years now and it deserves a change once in a while. This post is double important to me, not only because I am debuting the new face of the blog, but also because I got to work with 2 amazing fashion bloggers friends of mine. I met Laura back in 2012 at a store opening and we've been friends ever since. Until then we never met face to face, although we lived in the same city, but we were both following each other's blog. Now we are constantly hanging out together and we are shooting each other's looks for the blog. Behind the camera this time, shooting these fabulous coats that she designed for us is our dear friend Adriana Delia Barar, and she is both a fashion blogger and a designer. I really love how the coats turned out, and we are both rocking them in our own style! Make sure you check out Laura's post as well, here!

Great expectations

Skinny Buddha tribal print cardigan

You know how they say when you are pregnant that you are expecting? It's funny but I've never thought about it until a friend of mine brought it up. Truth be told, I never gave it too much thought because it wasn't until this week that the expecting part actually began for me. I have been at home, away from work, for a month and a half now and I have kept pretty busy with the blog and all, shopping for the baby, a bit of redecorating and whatnot. But now that everything is ready and I have a lot more time on my hands, this is where the part where I am actually expecting for the baby to come has arrived. I am still reading a lot, started re-watching Gilmore Girls (seems only appropriate with a baby girl on the way), going swimming and working on the blog, but I do have moments in the day where I just lay there and think this is it, the baby could come any minute now. It might still take a couple of weeks but I don't mind, I actually like the expecting part.

Counting down the days

Skinny Buddha white sweater dress

Well, we are officially starting the countdown. The baby can come any day now, but it might still be a few weeks before she makes her appearance. So in case I pull a disappearing act from the blog, you'll know why. I'm anxious and excited and to be honest not fully ready for this but hey, who is? I haven't been sleeping very well lately, but other than that I feel great. Been trying to exercise more and even though I've been skipping yoga lately I try to go swimming at least a couple of days a week. I'm telling you, swimming is the best thing you can do, especially in your last trimester. The water takes up all your weight, you get to exercise all your muscle groups, not to mention how relaxed you feel at the end. Although you might not feel like it, another great way to lift up your spirits is to go shopping. I recently got this great white sweater dress and I want to wear it non stop, it's the coziest thing ever. And it will be the perfect thing to wear post baby, when you're not quite yet back into shape.

Take a cue from the boys

Skinny Buddha boyfriend sweatshirt

There's never been a better time to borrow from your guy's closet! Pregnancy gives you the best excuse to do this, or to shop from the men's section. And even if you are not pregnant, the cold season is perfect for taking a peek into your guy's wardrobe for inspiration. I absolutely love this cozy sweatshirt, and of course I get double credit for buying it for my husband, because now we can both wear it. I recently got my first gig as a personal shopper, and my first client is a male friend of ours. So I did a lot of shopping in the men's department lately and believe me ladies, there are a lot of hidden gems in there. I'm definitely going back and getting some cozy oversized sweaters for myself and some scarves as well.

All of this and nothing

Skinny Buddha maternity houndstooth cardigan

I have reached a point where most of my clothes don't fit me anymore and I am left with only a couple of sweaters to wear. I was really happy to stumble upon this wrap cardigan in a houndstooth print and I got it in size M to make sure it will wrap nicely all around my expanding baby bump. The only downside was the sleeves are a bit too long, but I like them rolled up better anyway.  I obviously can't fit into any of my old pants either, but I picked up this neat trick where you pull an elastic band over and through the button hole and pull the other end around the button and it works really well, but you need a long tee or tank top to cover the front which is exposed. This saved me from spending lots of money on maternity pants. There's lots of ways to still stay chic during pregnancy, working with items you've already got in your closet, you just need to get a bit creative sometimes.

Words like violence break the silence

Skinny Buddha khaki fringe bag

I normally would have posted this on Monday, like I always do, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It feels weird resuming my blogging activities while people are out there in the streets trying to make a difference, but I have to do this to regain a sense of normalcy. A thousands thoughts have swarmed through my mind these past few difficult days but it's quite hard to put them into words. My country has been and still is in mourning after the tragic events of Friday night when a fire occurred at Colectiv club, during a concert. My thoughts go out to all the victims and their families. I've been numb these past few days, my feelings ranging from sadness and grief to despair and anger. I have to get back to a calmer state of mind because it doesn't do me any good and it certainly isn't good for my baby either. It makes me wonder what kind of world I am bringing her into and question what can I do to make things better for her and for us. Our power system is rotten and corrupt and we will not be able to change it over night. But I do have to say I've been amazed by people's reactions these days and truly impressed by the way they mobilized their efforts to help the victims in any way they could. It gives me hope that we as a people have grown and that my generation still has the power to fight and change things for the better. I have to keep a positive attitude and move forward, taking small steps. There is no other option.

Last minute Halloween makeup ideas

Halloween makeup ideas geisha
Go oriental with a Geisha makeup

At a loss for makeup ideas for tonight's big Halloween party? Here are some fun suggestions I've got lined up for you. You will need a very light base for all of them, white would be even better, and then you can go crazy with the makeup. Choose your favorite! At nine months pregnant, I will be skipping the parties tonight, but this doesn't mean I cannot have some fun with makeup at home. Whatever you decide to do on this spooky night, make sure you have a blast!

Art Encounters

Skinny Buddha Grey outfit purple Anileda Alrac bag

This month Timisoara has been the host of Art Encounters, an event that aims at integrating Romanian contemporary art into the international context. Throughout the city, spread across multiple venues, art lovers are invited to visit and discover art exhibitions and events, talks, workshops and performances. You still have a few days left if you haven't been to any of the exhibitions yet. I've always wanted to integrate art into my shoots for the blog, but most of the times you are not allowed to take pictures in such locations. Luckily this time I was able to shoot in the Cazarma U, or the Wien Barracks as it was originally known as, a location that is not normally open for the public. I enjoyed many of the pieces on display here, but chose this one with the misshaped punching bags mainly for chromatic reasons, but also for the powerful message I got from it. For me it was not a message of violence, but of awareness of the effects of our thoughts and actions.

Where I'm bound to the ground

Skinny Buddha all denim look

I've never done an all denim look before, but as I have just discovered, it is the perfect look for the weekend. I visited my parents this weekend and did not think to bring any outfits for a photo shoot. But Sunday was such a beautiful day that I decided I didn't want to miss the opportunity, especially since this is probably the last trip I take back home before the baby is born. Luckily my sister had packed this denim shirt and let me borrow it. I really love this kind of relaxed weekend outfit, and it's definitely a welcome change around here on the blog as well. I feel like I haven't shot such an effortless look in ages. I also have my sister to thank for the awesome hair, she's amazing at braiding.

Such a little thing makes such a big difference

Skinny Buddha SheIn long vest leather pants

The things we fashion bloggers won't do for a good shot! For one, we won't be afraid to stand in the middle of the street, face the oncoming traffic and dodge at the last minute. What else? Ah yeah, we would totally rock those bare arms even though we are almost shivering from cold. Luckily the sun is out for a change and that gives you a bit of courage. But at the end of the day, I am glad I did all these things because otherwise I wouldn't have been happy with the results. Sure, I could have come up with a different outfit, but when I get something that I really love, like this long vest here, I want to do my best to showcase it. So I set up a black canvas, meaning a pair of leather pants and a sleeveless top with a bow detail and layered the vest on top. Next time I will be wearing it over a cozy sweater that's fore sure.

Bloggers Meet Timisoara

Bloggers Meet Timisoara

This weekend Timisoara hosted  a very much anticipated event - Bloggers Meet Timisoara. Some of the most appreciated Romanian Fashion Bloggers gathered together at Iulius Mall on Friday night for a chance to talk to their readers and fans about their blogs and all things fashion. I was super excited to be part of this group and couldn't wait to see these beautiful girls again. We had actually started the day a bit earlier with a visit to the salon, and I need to thank Gianina from DMS Hair Salon for my fabulous curls. Then followed a late lunch at Caruso Restaurant where we got a chance to catch up and have a chit chat with the girls who arrived from Cluj, before going to the grand event. Dinner was held at the coziest bistro in town, La strada. Make sure you check out the tons of pictures we took on Instagram #FashionBloggersMeetTimisoara. On Saturday we had a fabulous street style fashion shoot for Altfel Magazine and I cannot wait to see how the pictures turned out. Dinner at Oxford Restaurant was amazing and super stylish. After midnight we headed over to Epic Society for a quick interview and a night of fun, music and great people. Truth be told, I could very easily get used to having these fabulous girls around every day, because this weekend I had a blast! Can't wait for the next event so we can see each other again. And of course, I couldn't finish this off without giving a big shout out and a huge thanks to our event hosts and organizers who made all of this happen: Deni Denisee and Ancira Adeon! You guys rock!

Black beauty

Skinny Buddha black new look dress H&M hat

When in doubt wear black. I wasn't sure what to wear to a dinner out with my girls, so I chose the easy way out and wore black. I started with a little black dress, which has a lot of stretch in it, so it's quite comfortable to wear. The I started adding things to make the whole outfit more interesting. I love wearing tights and these polka dot ones are my favorite, or should I say were my favorites because I managed to tear a big whole in them that evening. I knew I wanted to wear a statement necklace and this dragonfly one was the perfect match. Now the big floppy hat was the resistance piece of course, it never goes unnoticed on the street. I love how simple and yet eye catching this outfit is and I might even repeat it this weekend. I have a whole lot of outfits to plan for the weekend ahead, as we have two full days packed with fashion fun at the Bloggers Meet event in Timisoara. See you there!

Made of stone

Skinny Buddha grey layers

Maternity wear does not have to be bland, bulky and boring. Give the pieces you already own another chance and a fun twist. What was once a loose summer dress can now become a baby bump hugging piece. Use layers for warmth and comfort but also for adding another dimension to the outfit. When opting for solid colors I always like to wear a bold lip color, or a statement jewelry piece, or both! I kept things casual with a pair of high top Converse, but if your dress is not that casual go ahead and wear some heels. You are bound to turn some heads wherever you go! Or in  my case, twirl in this over sized flowy cardigan while taking pictures and give people a proper reason to stare.

Home made body scrub

Skinny Buddha home made body scrub

Skin care routine is super important to me, especially now that I am pregnant. And while on a day to day basis I focus mostly on my face routine, a full body pampering is required from time to time. You don't have to go to a fancy spa and spend lots of money, you can do this by yourself in the comfort of your home. My favorite skin treatment is exfoliation, for which I use a very simple home made scrub.

Baby doll

Skinny Buddha maternity wear baby doll dress heart print trench coat

I haven't worn this baby doll dress in ages and I am so glad I rediscovered it in the back of my closet. And for once I can say it has been put to good use. I mean this doesn't get any cuter than with a baby bump inside. And I am sure my baby girl is feeling quite cozy in there, with plenty of room to breathe. I am quite surprised I can still wear my heart print trench coat as well, but then again my baby bump is quite small for 8 months I guess. Unfortunately the coat is sold out, but I left a link down under just in case you wanna keep an eye out for when it comes back in stock.

Isn't it ironic

Skinny Buddha maternity wear vest purple hat

Isn't it ironic how now that I am at home, with all the time in the world, I am at a lost for words? I can blame this on the weather, or on the pregnancy hormones, but the truth is there are days like these, when I just don't feel inspired to write. I guess it's hard talking about this outfit and remembering the sunny day these pictures where taken on while looking as the rain drops hit my living room window. Hopefully tomorrow the sun will be up again and maybe my energy level as well. I think the baby wants me to take a nap now. See ya!

I want to ride my bicycle

Skinny Buddha bicycle outfit

A few months ago I did a photo shoot for a brochure edited by Verde pentru biciclete, a local organisation that promotes bike riding as an eco alternative way to commute in and around the city. I did the styling for all 5 shoots and I wanted to showcase comfortable and stylish outfits that every girl can wear while bike riding. The intention to show range and creativity and I wanted the ensembles to easily go from spring to summer and to fall. Let me know which one is your favorite!

Rainbow warrior

Skinny Buddha maternity style rainbow stripes

Here's a shining and colorful outfit to brighten out your day! I know mine needs some cheering up. Dressing up in bold colors is always a great antidote for a rainy day. To make it even more fun I decided to play with stripes in different colors and widths. And while horizontal stripes are not always our friends, if you play them right you can actually enhance your figure and create a flattering effect. The slimmer ones are hugging my baby bump and are not making it look larger than they are, and the thicker ones draw the attention towards the legs and lengthen them. Hope you guys love this combo as much as I do!

Without You I'm Nothing

Skinny Buddha bride purple wedding dress

My boyfriend and I got married a month ago. We wanted to keep things very simple, so we just went down to city hall and said I do in front of family and a few close friends. We had been together for 9 years with no intention to get married, but we figured with a baby on the way, we might as well take this step. I never fantasized about my wedding day and wearing the perfect white wedding dress, which to this day I think does not even exist, so there were no expectations and no worries about how this day was supposed to turn out. We spent a wonderful day surrounded by people we care about and who care about us, and that was all that mattered. Looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together and welcoming a new member into the family in a couple of months. Things could not be better!

Babyshambles

Skinny Buddha Zara purple dress maternity

Whoa, already 30 weeks pregnant!!! Just a week and a half away from my last day at work and then I'm going to enjoy my well deserved pre-natal leave. It's been a crazy busy year so far: new job and responsibilities, tons of travel, new things to learn and interesting people along the way. Now it's time to take it easy, get things ready and get tons of rest as well cause you never know when you're gonna get a full night's sleep once the baby is born. It's been a fun ride so far, no sickness, no nausea, no nothing, and now I am very much enjoying my baby girl practicing her ninja kicks or dance moves, or whatever it is she is doing in there. With every new doctor's appointment I see how much she's grown and developed and it's just amazing. Can't wait to meet my little dragonfly in person!
