As the countdown for the New Year is starting, it's time to take a look back at the year that is coming to an end and examine my sartorial choices. It's been a wonderful year and I can definitely notice a change in my style since I became a mom. I might not have been as active this year on the blog as I have been in the past, but I am sure you can all understand that. On the other hand, I think I have participated in a lot more social activities and fashion related events, and my daughter was there with me most of the times. I've been a lot more active on my other social media platforms such as Instagram (@skinny_buddha) and Snapchat (@skinnybuddham), so make sure you keep up with me there as well. So, before I reveal my favorite outfits of 2016 I want to wish you all a Happy New Year full of happiness and great style!

Frozen
Woke up this morning and everything around us was covered in a light coat of snow and frozen solid. It seemed surreal, eerie and beautiful at the same time. That's one of the benefits of living outside the city and being surrounded by an open field. The trees looked like cotton candy and everything was silent and still. It seemed like a good idea to add some color to the scenery, so out I went to snap some outfit photos. I've been dying to wear my new lace up suede skirt, although I knew it wasn't really weather appropriate. I put on the thickest skin color tights I could find, and the brightest red turtleneck to make the outfit pop. I know red is such a cliche color for the holidays but I really love this color mix. I can already see myself wearing this while sipping a cup of hot chocolate and decorating the Christmas tree. Am I the only one who hasn't decorated it yet? Anyway, hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas, and I'll see you after the holidays!

The age of the understatement
We've had an exceptionally sunny winter day yesterday and I couldn't be happier. I've been in sort of a sulky mood lately, hence the lack of posting and activity on social media, and this was just the kick I needed to stop procrastinating and get some things done. First on my agenda was to get out and take some outfit pictures for the blog. I only managed to snap one of two outfits because we were losing the light, but it all turned out for the better because I wasn't totally happy with my second outfit anyway. I then stopped by for some shopping therapy at the Fashion Fridays Christmas Fair. If you are in need of some cool gift ideas for the holidays and want to give Santa some help, our local designers have plenty to offer, so make sure you check out their selection. The fair is open today as well. Of course I went to the voting station as well, but since the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections look kind of gloomy, I will not get into the subject.
Now let's move on to the fun part, and that is the outfit I am wearing. I ditched the coat for the sake of the photos, but as I was saying, we had a pretty warm day yesterday so I did not freeze for a change. I started putting together this outfit around this pleated midi skirt in a beautiful scarlet tone. I love the elegance of pleated skirts and they way they move when I walk or swirl. Yes yes, even grown ups swirl. I kept everything else in muted tones so that the skirt would stand out. But I guess this cozy criss-cross sweater is an eye catcher as well. I've been kinda obsessed with laces lately, and this sweater definitely stole my heart. Love that you can wear it off the shoulder as well and show off some skin (*wink*). Pairing knits with fluid materials is one of my favorite mixes the result is super stylish.

The famous robe coat
Yes, robe coats are still on trend this season and even though I was not an early adopter, now I simply cannot resist them. Especially when they come in a delightful color such as this one. Forget the classic raincoat or fur coat, this is the kind of coat you can wear with nothing underneath when you're on a mission to seduce someone. That's the vibe I was going for, but to tell you the truth I was wearing a lace body and an unbuttoned cardigan underneath because... well, I wasn't on a mission, and freezing was not on my agenda today. I can also see this type of coat worn with sneakers and sweats to go to the supermarket and pick up some milk or with jeans, a pair of ankle boots and a turtleneck sweater for a lunch date with your girlfriends. Yes yes, I know I wore the wrong bag with this outfit, it's much too big and casual. That's why I decided to ditch it halfway through our shoot.
I had a hair appointment today and got pampered as per usual at Dichiseria. Loving these loose curls and my new hair color. I almost asked my stylist to put my hair on some big curlers and lend me a cigarette, that would have been the perfect look for this robe coat. Don't you think?

Aces up my sleeve
Not all black sweaters are created equal. And that's a fact. Also, you cannot have too many black sweaters in your wardrobe, and that's another fact. This season I fell in love with this bell sleeve chunky sweater and I'm going to wear it to pieces. It's so soft and cozy and the design is surely unexpected. I decided to dress it up a bit for its first outing, so I paired it with skinny jeans and purple pumps. I frayed the hems of the jeans myself a while ago and they look so much better when worn with high heels. Pretty soon it will be too cold for such an outfit, but I am sure I can find a myriad of other ways to wear my new favorite sweater.

Wardrobe remix: fall maternity outfits
My baby girl turns one year old in a few days!!! Oh dear, how did time fly by so fast? Naturally I became nostalgic and started looking at photos from last year. It seems like only yesterday you were inside mommy's belly and here you are today getting ready to take your fist steps. Being pregnant was such a wonderful experience for me and I surely had so much fun with my outfits. The only item I ever bought from the maternity section was a pair of jeans, but other than that I just mixed and matched items from my own wardrobe and sometimes I borrowed a few sweaters from my husband's. Hopefully my trip down memory lane will inspire you as well. Here are my favorite fall maternity outfits!

Red velvet revolution
It seems fall has paid us a very short visit this year and it already feels like winter. The bottom line is this outfit is in no way weather appropriate, but I decided to brave the cold and freeze my ass off instead of hiding it behind a massive coat. The minute I spotted this wine red velvet dress and added it to my shopping cart, I knew I wanted to wear it with fishnet stockings. And so began the hunt for the perfect pair, because I had a very specific type in mind and the eyelets needed to be the exact right size. My love for tights is well known by now, but all these years I stayed away from fishnet tights because for some unknown reason, in the back of my mind I always associated them with something vulgar. The only context I could have maybe seen them in was a punk outfit, but that wasn't exactly my style either. As I've learned in all these years of exploring and experimenting with different styles, you should never say never. A couple of years ago I turned a complete 180 and realized fishnet stockings can be super elegant and refined if paired correctly. It took me a while to adopt them, and now as you can imagine, they are my favorite pair. Is there something you swore you wouldn't be caught wearing and later on changed your mind?
