A short history of the palazzo pants

A short history of the palazzo pants

I've always associated palazzo pants with luxury and opulence, for some reason. I must have first seen them when I was a kid in some soap operas during the '90s, maybe Dinasty or The Young and the Restless and I was quite fascinated. They're the kind of pants rich women would wear on vacation, or at a party on a yacht. Am I right? And that's where I should be wearing them, but oh well, I guess the city will have to do as well. I actually had to google why they're called palazzo pants because to be honest I can't quite figure it out. Palazzo means palace in Italian, as far as I can remember. Anyway, there is no clear explanation except for the fact that Coco Chanel discovered them while on a trip to Venice in the '30s and adopted them because they were easy to wear when getting in or out of the gondolas. In the years before pants were acceptable wear for women, the palazzo pant was a popular option for resort wear or lounging, and in the 1960s crossed into evening wear as they were a chic alternative to the skirt styles of the day. The palazzo pant's popularity continued through the 1970s and then faded in the '80s before having a comeback in the '90s.

Lessons learned: how to stretch back shrunken rayon garments

how to stretch back shrunken rayon garments White Open Shoulder Crochet Lace Sleeve Tassel Dress

Online shopping can sometimes be an overwhelming experience that takes you through a roller coaster of emotions in just a matter of a days. Or maybe it's just me? Let's analyse! From the excitement of finding that perfect white summer boho dress, to the anticipation of getting it in the mail, to the thrill of trying it on and wearing it for the first time and ending with complete and utter disappointment and grief once you take it out of the washing machine. Let me explain. After much debate I finally narrowed my search to two white dresses and chose this one as the lucky winner. Once arrived in the country, I figured it would only be a matter of a few days until it reaches my local post office. But no, the package was held into customs for more than two weeks and I was frantically checking the tracking system every day in anticipation. Yey, the dress finally arrived and it looked great. Tried it on and went out to take pictures for the blog. So far so good.
A couple of days later I threw it in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry without paying much attention (as I normally do) to the care instructions, at 40 Celsius degrees. Once the cycle was over, out came my dress a few centimeters short. The hem, not counting the tassels, was barely covering my bottom, so I figured I ruined it for good and I might as well forget about it. Luckily Google has all the answers, so when I search for ways to stretch back shrunken rayon garments I found the solution to my problem. Apparently rayon, which is a fabric I evidently don't know much about, can be pulled back into shape if you soak it in water and hair conditioner. The hair conditioner relaxes the rayon fibers and if you start stretching it gently while wet it will eventually regain its original shape and length. I did not manage to get it back to its original length, I would say it's still about 2 centimeters short, but it's way better than I hoped for. So if you guys ever run into this problem, now you know how to fix it. But obviously the lesson here is to carefully read the care instructions label. Duh!

Black and white stripes forever

black and white stripes dress

My love for stripes knows no limits! I never miss out on the opportunity to add another piece to the collection. I knew this dress was a winner the minute I saw it. The design is super flattering and I especially love the double layer on the top because  it makes it look like a two piece ensemble. It's no secret that my go to color combo is black and white, so this dress is definitely a keeper. The quality of the fabric and the seam work are exquisite and you might be surprised to find that it is being manufactured in Romania. Just look how perfectly aligned are the stripes on the sides. I'm a bit OCD so this attention to detail is quite important to me. To up the chicness game I went for a pair of black bow pumps and a two sided black and white pattern clutch. The red lips have become a signature for all my black and white looks and this Ruby Woo shade from Mac is my absolute favorite. Now imagine walking into your office dressed like that. Wouldn't you feel like you could conquer the world? I am currently reading #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso and this dress is definitely giving me some girlboss vibes. Have a wonderful week, my darlings!
