Skinny Buddha maternity style rainbow stripes

Here's a shining and colorful outfit to brighten out your day! I know mine needs some cheering up. Dressing up in bold colors is always a great antidote for a rainy day. To make it even more fun I decided to play with stripes in different colors and widths. And while horizontal stripes are not always our friends, if you play them right you can actually enhance your figure and create a flattering effect. The slimmer ones are hugging my baby bump and are not making it look larger than they are, and the thicker ones draw the attention towards the legs and lengthen them. Hope you guys love this combo as much as I do!

Without You I'm Nothing

Skinny Buddha bride purple wedding dress

My boyfriend and I got married a month ago. We wanted to keep things very simple, so we just went down to city hall and said I do in front of family and a few close friends. We had been together for 9 years with no intention to get married, but we figured with a baby on the way, we might as well take this step. I never fantasized about my wedding day and wearing the perfect white wedding dress, which to this day I think does not even exist, so there were no expectations and no worries about how this day was supposed to turn out. We spent a wonderful day surrounded by people we care about and who care about us, and that was all that mattered. Looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together and welcoming a new member into the family in a couple of months. Things could not be better!

Babyshambles

Skinny Buddha Zara purple dress maternity

Whoa, already 30 weeks pregnant!!! Just a week and a half away from my last day at work and then I'm going to enjoy my well deserved pre-natal leave. It's been a crazy busy year so far: new job and responsibilities, tons of travel, new things to learn and interesting people along the way. Now it's time to take it easy, get things ready and get tons of rest as well cause you never know when you're gonna get a full night's sleep once the baby is born. It's been a fun ride so far, no sickness, no nausea, no nothing, and now I am very much enjoying my baby girl practicing her ninja kicks or dance moves, or whatever it is she is doing in there. With every new doctor's appointment I see how much she's grown and developed and it's just amazing. Can't wait to meet my little dragonfly in person!

To dye or not to dye your hair during pregnancy

Skinny Buddha Indian shirt

My outfit today is clearly influenced by my recent trip to India. I love the fact that the shirt dress is comfy enough and gives me  freedom of movement, and it's a pieces that definitely stands out. But what I want to talk about today is the debate over dying your hair during pregnancy. I recently paid a visit to the hair salon and decided to change things up a bit. I got rid of the last remains of turquoise in my hair, and got quite a substantial trim. I decided against coloring my roots, not because I think dying your hair during pregnancy is unsafe, but because I want to give my hair a break. I did some research and there aren't any conclusive studies out there regarding the harmful effect of hair dye, in fact most dyes are not highly toxic and therefore safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.  Of course, you should consult your doctor in case you have doubts. I have been dying my hair non stop since 10th grade, that's 16 years! I figured it won't be long before I start getting gray hairs and coloring will be a necessity, but until then, here's the perfect chance to see what my natural color looks like. I haven't seen it in ages! And I know this is going to sound strange, and it's not like she's going to remember any of this or realize what she is seeing, but I want my daughter to see me in a more natural look rather than all these crazy colors I've been experimenting with lately.

I wanna get lost with you

Skinny Buddha grunge little black dress plaid cut out boots

At this point, dressing for the occasion is no longer an easy task. I'll get back to the story of how this grunge inspired look came about, but first let me tell you about the occasion. This Sunday I was invited to attend the Off Opera Fashion Fair, a charity event organized by the Rotaract Club. All proceeds from the event will be exclusively used for the renovation of the Pulmonary Division of the Victor Babes Hospital in Timisoara. Participants were able to browse and shop designer clothes and accessories, attend fashion shows, concerts and photo exhibitions throughout the day, in a very relaxed and fun atmosphere. Now getting back to my outfit, it all started with this little black dress. I am glad I can still get into it, and it shows off my baby bump quite nicely. I think the saying "dress for the body you have, not the body you want" goes really well for pregnancy as well. I'm not really into maternity wear, most of the clothes are super unflattering, so I like to make do with what I have and not splurge on an entirely new wardrobe just because my body is changing. The men's shirt was borrowed from my husband's closet and I think this is what gave the whole look a grungy vibe. Of course the cutout boots, spiked bracelet and manly sunglasses helped as well. How do you like it?

Safari

Skinny Buddha army green sleeveless dress safari

The instant I saw this army green dress here I knew it would be perfect for fall. I knew I wanted to incorporate it into a safari look, as I haven't tried this before. The only issues was, as it sometime happens when you shop on line, the dress turned out to be slightly different than I imagined. The slit in the front is quite... (ahem) generous, so I had to close it with a safety pin, otherwise a wardrobe malfunction would have been unavoidable and I would have flashed everyone from the first step out. Hopefully the fit will be better once I regain my waistline, after the baby is born. The important thing is there is always a solution to every problem, so don't be afraid to experiment!

Random access memories

Skinny Buddha stripes maxi dress henna tattoo

I just returned from a one week business trip to India and even if unfortunately I was unable to organize a photo shoot there (it was super hot and humid), I came back with plenty of memories and souvenirs. My favorite by far is this hand henna tattoo I got there on my last day. One of the girls at work was super nice and did it minutes before I had to leave for the airport. You know I love tattoos, and during pregnancy this is the safest and quickest way to indulge in some body adornment, and it's only temporary. I am wearing my newest obsession, the cat eye sunglasses, a dress and a pair of earrings I picked up at Sziget festival years ago. The dress is the perfect attire for this transition period into fall and the stripes are camouflaging my ever expanding baby bump quite well.

The cat empire

Skinny Buddha white dress sunglasses

I  never considered myself a dog or cat person, because I never owned a pet, but I do love them both equally. Cats on the one hand can be more easily associated with fashion, and we have quite a lot of cat references and idioms in the fashion world. You might be a cool cat, the cat's meow or the cat's pajamas or you might be a copy cat. And of course, you go to a fashion show and watch the models on the catwalk and make catty remarks. Oh and let's not forget that everybody loves the cat-eye, and speaking of which, I got my pair of sunglasses here. At this point in my pregnancy I am happy to still fit in some of my form fitting dresses, but it's not going to last too long. I love pulling together black and white outfits, there's something so chic and elegant about them. Meow indeed!
